Originally designed and conceptualized in the year 2011, The Tote on the Turf reopened in September 2023, as The Bombay Club.
Nestled amidst the captivating scenery of Mahalaxmi Race Course, the club now spans 26,000 sq. feet and is surrounded by a verdant canopy of century-old trees.
The space has been artfully divided into three distinct experiential areas spanning the ground and first levels. Guests and members can now choose to book these areas individually or opt for the entire space, offering them greater flexibility and variety in their experiences.
Tote on the Turf, was designed by Chris Lee and Kapil Gupta from Serie Architects by converting a disused building from Mumbai’s colonial past into a banquet hall, restaurant and bar called ‘The Tote’. Their design was inspired by the 40-foot-high rain trees that surround the buildings. They created a grove of elegant metal trees as the new structure for the Tote.
The upstairs lounge/bar of The Tote features the most intricate element in its interior design, which is the faceted acoustic paneling. This paneling showcases a three-dimensional surface made of walnut-veneered plywood, elegantly fitted into bronze channels. Its design is a stylised portrayal of branches and foliage, drawing inspiration from both natural elements and the geometric embellishments found in Mughal interiors.
The Tote caters to the Indian fondness for social gatherings, predominantly focused on extravagant buffets that captivate all the senses. This ensures the success of this multi-faceted establishment, providing spaces to dine and indulge, be it for formal occasions, large family gatherings, or intimate get-togethers with friends.
